Packing for yourself can be a way to economize on your move. pack it has compiled these 15 tips to help you pack your belongings as efficiently and safely as possible:

Get adequate packing supplies such as moving boxes of different size, wardrobe boxes, bubble roll, packing tape, wrapping paper, labels, marker pens… gather everything ahead of time.

Make sure that you have a toolbox handy to dismantle and assemble your furniture.

A Ladder is a must in order to reach high placed items.

Do not over-pack moving boxes: The heavier the item, the smaller the moving box.

Avoid mixing items from different rooms in the same moving boxes.

Label all moving boxes.

Do not interlock moving box tops. Seal them with packing tape.

To minimize the chance of breakage, pack and unpack glassware and fragile items over a padded surface. If you drop an item, it will land on a cushioned surface.

Do not use newspaper because the ink can permanently stain your goods. Instead, use wrapping paper.

The First Night Box: Surviving the first night in your new home can be difficult without the right supplies. We recommend you pack a “first night” box with items you’ll need for eating, cleaning, & hygiene.

Take photos of electrical set ups as well as frame arrangements and decorative set-ups.

Make sure that all screws are packed with their respective items.

Make a detailed log of everything.

Make sure you don’t pack important documents (passports, birth certificates, property deeds…), expensive jewelry and other goods which are irreplaceable. These items are best carried with you for your peace of mind.

It is better to be safe than sorry when packing your personal valuables. Highlight as fragile all boxes and items that require additional security or special access.
